Rankin: Spirit of Ecstasy - An art commission for Rolls Royce Motor Cars

In the year that celebrates the centenary of the Spirit of Ecstasy, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced details of a very special commission. Over the next months, 100 images inspired by the Spirit of Ecstasy - the figurine famed for its prominent and defining position on the bonnet of every Rolls-Royce - will be captured by renowned photographer Rankin. The first two images in the Rankin: Spirit of Ecstasy collection are revealed today and can be seen below.

Like Charles Robinson Sykes, the man who crafted the legendary Spirit of Ecstasy flying lady one hundred years ago, Rankin takes inspiration from the beauty and sensuality of the feminine form. Just as Eleanor Velasco Thornton is rumoured to have been Sykes’ muse for the Spirit of Ecstasy, so Rankin has turned to his inspirational wife and model Tuuli Shipster for the first of his 100 portraits.

BMW Car Club On Track - Cadwell Park May 13th

There are still a few places left for the clubs track day at Cadwell Park this Friday, this is one not to miss, with famous corners like The Mountain, Gooseneck and Mansfield it's one for the track day diary!

You can enjoy a full day of open pit lane for just  £169 as a club member or £199 for guests, this is an exclusive hire of the track and will be run, as usual, to very high standards. There will be a raffle which will include club vouchers and Nick usually has a voucher for a free BMW Car Club track day of your choice and a trophy for driver of the day judged by the marshals. Nick has also arranged for instructors to be available throughout the day to help you learn as much as possible about the track, you and your car.

This is the clubs 30th year at Cadwell Park so we must be doing something right!

WebClips - links to items on the interwebs

It was pointed out to me by a member recently that it would be a good idea to repeat the WebClips column from the magazine on-line, that way you don't have to retype the links to each item. So here goes, here's this months WebCips....

Welcome to webclips, I have another great selection for you this month starting out with a Mazda RX7 that was supposed to be drifting but the wheels fell off….and I mean all of them! http://tinyurl.com/35dgqw4
This one will have you asking why? How about driving along on two wheels whilst your passengers change the wheels and tyres? Well, I guess maybe it was just “because we can”.. http://tinyurl.com/4cl7efr
Now back to BMW, here’s just over 9 minutes of a Z4 M Coupe (V8) racing a Porsche 997 RSR at the Nurburgring, it’s very fast and very close racing. http://tinyurl.com/6xm69xh
Fancy having a look around Jay Kay’s car collection? Here’s a flashback to a Fifth gear visit that Tiff and VBH did to music man and car nut jamiroquai’s garage a while back: http://tinyurl.com/47uvk6q
Ever seen a US Army Air Mail delivery? How about a few trucks that just have to be on the battlefield tonight! http://tinyurl.com/4hrwy4v
These will make you cringe…..a compilation of failures… http://tinyurl.com/4cgmzcx
And finally, I know it’s only a bicycle but I bet you couldn’t do that even with a few Red Bull’s inside you! http://tinyurl.com/4e8f7mu
That’s all for this month, I could really do with some help in finding interesting stuff on the internet so please do email me with your ideas for links I can include in future editions of webclips.  We also have our own video channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/BMWCCGB and our photos on flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/bmwccgb/. Also, don’t forget that we now have a Facebook page here: http://tiny.cc/j7tde , Twitter account (@BMWCCGB) and a blog www.bmwccgb.blogspot.com please take a look and get involved!
Have fun and be safe on the interwebs!
